There are always many ways to approach ones goal. Looking back, my career has been a reflection of that. When I was young I wasn’t confident that I could find a way to make movies a career so I tried a little of everything. I focused on them all intensely as though they were in fact one singular thing and told myself if I worked hard enough, one of them would take off. Too my surprise, and much earlier than I expected, thats precisely what happened.

Creating visual narratives through any lens is a complex collaborative art. It was no happy coincidence that the success and growth of one career fed the development and momentum of another. Each craft requires its own unique perspective and discipline. Experience from all those different perspectives created a better understanding of how the whole worked. In the end, each boils down to communication. The transmission of ideas, from what’s in our head, or our heart, directly into the consciousness of another person is the most fundamental aspect of what those in film do. With every word, frame, sound & expression we communicate a diffusion of ideas or feelings with art so that hopefully, it lands on an audience with lasting effect.

What I didn’t realize I was doing, was learning how to take the lessons from those different artistic perspectives and use them to become a better visual communicator. Today it does not matter if the project is a baed in fiction, biographical, corporate, entertainment, or art for its own sake, my goal is to evolve my craft; as a director, a cinematographer, an artist and a performer. To find new and better ways to communicate ideas and experiences to people who love story.
